Before I jump into a classroom tour, I wanted to tell you a little bit about where I teach. I teach for a private preschool which has classrooms based in a few churches around our area. Most preschools/pre-k programs around where I live are based in churches. We do not have preschool/pre-k programs in our school districts, and have very few that are everyday.
I teach the 3-4 year old class on Tuesday and Thursdays and have 9 students, with no assistant. There is another 3-4 year old class right across the hall that happens at the same time. Our classes do gym, parties, and field trips together.
I room share with another teacher who teaches the 4-5 year old class on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays. Then, of course, the church uses the room on Sunday mornings. There are things I would do differently if I was the only one using the room.
With that being said, welcome to my classroom (links to everything are at the bottom)…
When you walk into our classroom there is a small area where our students can place their buckets and they have coat hooks. Then there is a small door that leads into the classroom right into our dramatic play area.
On the same wall as our dramatic play we have our circle time area. This is our large bulletin board with our calendar(s), visual schedule, rules, and weather graph. My class uses the linear calendar below the bulletin board.
Our sensory bin. I absolutely love our large sensory bin that has wheels and a lid. The orange stools are from IKEA (Mammut). Our sensory bin at the beginning of the year is a Pete the Cat bin complete with Pete figures, mini shoes, buttons, and lots of other fun items!
This cabinet holds our table time toys. We keep this cabinet closed and pull out of it what we need. Then is our library. We have a beanbag, shelf with books, book buddies, and green chairs from Big Lots.
Behind our art easel is a little teacher area with cabinets and a sink. Then we have our big metal art cabinet that holds a lot of our art supplies and we do our question of the day on the front. The bathroom is in the corner and then I have my teacher area. This holds my personal table time toys, centers, art supplies, etc.
This area is down the wall from my teacher area and across from our circle time. The small tables are from IKEA (Lack) and the blue cube chairs are from Children’s Factory. My students love our cube chairs! The second picture is our free play toys.
This is a magnetic board on the back of our teacher closet door. It is a large oil drip pan from the automotive section at Wal-Mart. I got it many years ago and hung it up with command strips.
Thanks for taking a tour with me. If you have any other questions, ask away!
